The Continuing Issue of the Comfort Women

Shinzo Abe, the Japanese Prime Minister, has stated opposition to the Korean president, Moon Jae-in’s proposal that their two countries revise a 2015 agreement between the two countries concerning comfort women testimonies. However, Abe does agree that the two countries need to meet to discuss a “future-oriented” relationship between their two countries. They did so during the recent Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang. The leaders of several other countries around the world were also present.

The question of the comfort women stories refers to the era of Japan’s colonization of Korea from 1910 to 1945. These were kidnapped women and girls who were forced to have sex with around 100 men every day. These females were often deprived of adequate food and water. During that time the Japanese forced many Korean women to serve their soldiers via prostitution. During World War II, many of these women were shipped off to the front lines to serve in brothels for the Japanese officers. In recent times these women have been called Korean comfort women.

South Korea’s renewal of this feud is considered very inopportune at this time with the imminent North Korea nuclear threat. In the 2015 agreement, Japan officially apologized to the South Korean comfort women and set up a 1 billion yen fund for those of them still living. However, in the instance, Japan also had some demands. They asked that all of South Korea’s statues commemorating “comfort women” be removed. Up to that time, South Korea had installed such statues in several countries around the world: the United States, Australia, and Germany.

South Korea is now coming to the conclusion that this was not enough. In the brief time since the 2015 agreement, the 46 surviving South Korean victims and still living victims from neighboring countries have staged protests. And they were not alone in protesting. Hundreds of South Koreans have joined in the protests and many more have expressed decided discontentment with the 2015 agreement. So the South Korean government put together a five-month investigative team to look into the 2015 agreement between Seoul and Tokyo.

The task force found that the former South Korean government, led by former President Park Geun-hye, had failed to fully take into consideration the opinions of the still living Korean comfort women. Thus, the recent demand to revisit the 2015 agreement. This information has been relayed to the world via Moon’s spokesperson, Kim Eui-kyeom. Via Eui-kyeom, Moon also told the world that he sincerely hopes Japan will work with him to heal these old wounds. But for his part, Abe has said the Japanese government will not budge on the issue “one millimeter.”

Not everyone prefers the euphemism, South Korean Comfort Women. Although South Korea and Japan are adamantly opposed to this issue, they are strongly united in attempting to get North Korea to back off of its nuclear and missile programs plan. In 2014 the U.N attempted to get this changed to “enforced sex slaves.” At the time of colonization, the Japanese called these women “ianfu.”… Read More

Pastor Chris Fortifying Teen Faith at the International Easter Youth Camp

The International Easter Youth Camp, which is being held from March 29 to April 5, is already making headlines, thanks to Chris Oyakhilome. It is promising to be an exciting event for those who attend and those who connect with the true meaning of Easter.

Some people know Chris Oyakhilome as a mild and devoted man who knows how to be a good friend, but most people know him as something more: a good pastor. Pastor Chris understands how important it is for people to form a relationship with the Lord, and he knows that it starts with children. Perhaps this is one reason he is hoping that children grow up knowing God’s love, and this camp is reaching towards that goal.

Pastor Chris believes that young people have a heart for God. He believes the almighty has placed a particular purpose inside their hearts. Of course, he knows that many people accomplish their dreams and that some of those people do not know God, which makes their dreams unfulfilled. People who achieve their life goals without knowledge of God likely feel a void that earthly things cannot fill. Pastor Chris does not want this for the kids that come to his Easter event. He knows all the engaging activities are made with the sole purpose of allowing attendees to truly connect with the Creator.

Getting understanding from the Lord provides true purpose, which is what Pastor Chris ultimately wants. The program has been happening every year and lasts for eight days. The young people who attend the event are between 13 to 21 years of age. The reason for this age group is Pastor Chris believes kids around this age group are more likely to be exposed to bad influences.

Parents may want to shield their children from this troubling world, but it is impossible to keep a watchful eye over kids their entire childhood. Sometimes, kids need to be taught how to fend off bad influences and how to do Spiritual battle. This is something that Pastor Chris is adamant about. People of faith should not be fearful but brave. This comes from the Lord, at least in Pastor Chris’ point of view. The pastor thinks he’s helped craft a very exciting, educating, and enlightening program. Those who attend the International Easter Youth Camp or the IEYC event are going to be lucky enough to meet Pastor Chris himself, which is something that has gotten many teenagers pretty excited.

One of the things that Pastor Chris is known for is helping people get closer to God. Some say that it is the pastor’s Spiritual gift because his power to propel people to the Highest Spirit is truly remarkable. Only a man of God and a man whose been anointed with the power can help others discover God’s plan for them. This is what he wishes to do for all the kids attending his camp because it is what God commands. Pastor Chris urges parents who really want their children to grow up with a real and unshakable connection to the Lord to consider having their kids attend because fortifying faith is part of what the pastor is going to focus on.

Those who are interested in attending that IEYC are going to have to send an email to the ieyc@globalyouthleadersforum.org. The spots could fill up quickly, so it is important that teens and parents consider signing up as soon as possible to secure a spot. This is an international event, meaning that deeply devoted teens are attending from all corners of the world.… Read More
